Description
Located in the heart of Marin County, our private, country estate sits on over an acre of flat usable space. We provide the ideal setting for individuals seeking transformative care. Our goal is to provide specific individualized and compassionate care to those who are going through the complicated detox experience. Our team believes in treating each individual’s core problems with a directed, purposeful approach founded in the revolving healing of the body, mind, and spirit. We feel a mix of these therapies is vital in the early recovery process to free someone from the grips of addiction. Heartwood believes your journey must be grounded in personal goals that reflect values and principles which helps you realize that your potential begins with actions and healing that are both medical and spiritual in nature. Tools for the future begin in the wholeness of a targeted detox-recovery. Just fifteen minutes from the golden gate bridge, our 6,000+ square foot home offers 6 private bedrooms, two spacious living rooms, two kitchens, a sitting room for reading and relaxing, as well as a game room for activities and fun. All rooms are newly furnished with internet access, and flat screen TV’s. We offer the peace and serenity of being in the country, while still being located just minutes from downtown San Rafael. Our outdoor space is second to none and provides you with the opportunity to feed our goats, chickens and other livestock, or you can simply sit and relax by our swimming pool or tend to our garden. You can enjoy farm fresh eggs every morning from our chicken coop, and our chef incorporates the basil, tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries and rosemary from our outdoor garden into lunch and dinner daily. We only serve a maximum of 6 clients at a time, ensuring that you get the personal care and attention you deserve during this most difficult time in your life.
Alcohol and drug abuse take a major toll on the body. Eating well is a significant part of overall health. Nutrition is one of the many issues that requires attention when seeking recovery from drug and alcohol abuse. Food is vital in helping the body rebuild itself, and can influence the way in which your brain functions. Regular consumption of alcohol or other drugs deprives the body of essential nutrients.
Studies have shown that most heavy drinkers are low in B vitamin (especially B6, B12, thiamine and folate) which support metabolism, energy production, and brain and nerve function. A shortage of these vitamins can cause anxiety, low energy levels, headaches, drowsiness, sleep problems and depression. Excessive alcohol consumption may also interfere with a person’s ability to absorb and use the nutrients that they do consume.
In opiate drug and prescription medication abusers, what they have been putting into their bodies can act as a central nervous system depressant, which can severely slow the digestive track. For individuals withdrawing from opiates, they may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and anorexia, or a lack of desire to eat. These symptoms can lead to potentially dangerous fluid and electrolyte imbalances, namely a deficiency of potassium.
At Heartwood House, our meals are designed to rejuvenate the mind and body in order to promote health, well-being and lasting sobriety. Our chef will cater each meal to maximize your nutritional intake. Many people need, or prefer to maintain a specialized diet, whether for religious reasons, food allergies, food addictions, eating disorders, health issues, or other reasons. Our executive chef will work personally with you or your loved one to meet any specific needs. We believe that maintaining healthy eating habits while at our facility, coupled with a balanced program of rest and relaxation will help to prevent relapse and can keep an individual on the pathway to recovery and living a healthy life.
