Description
WHO WE ARE
For 31 years, starting in San Mateo County, The Latino Commission (TLC) has worked within the Latino community providing culturally rooted healing interventions for individuals and families.
We are recovery community organization (RCO), an independent, non-profit organization led and governed by people of local communities of recovery. We operate Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) certified California state-licensed adult recovery facilities in San Mateo, San Francisco, and Tulare Counties providing residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment for men, women, and young women with child, transitional sober living environment for both men and women, health education, teen pregnancy prevention programs, case management; safety-net services, and public awareness.
We provide culturally competent services with 25 fulltime staff, 15 part-time staff, 20 volunteers and volunteer board members who are reflective of our community. More than 90% of staff speak Spanish and 85% are living in recovery.
Treating the Whole You
Our trauma-informed, holistic approach to treatment seeks to heal the individual in all aspects of his or her addiction or disorder. At The Latino Commission, we see the whole person and seek to address the environmental, lifestyle, health, educational and psychological aspects helping people on their journey of recovery.
The Latino Cultural Experience with its long-held traditions, sacred beliefs, and strong family values, all known to be protective factors, is a key element in the process we use to develop unique service delivery models.
We promote Transformational Healing using culturally rooted treatment with indigenous teachings, rituals, practices, and cultural reaffirmation principles, employing strength-based, family focused, intervention strategies.
When Transformational healing is experienced, the person begins a life of balance and wholeness, that impacts their entire family and ultimately changes the community.
TRANSFORMATIONAL HEALING
When one’s true cultural identity is restored and transformational healing is experienced, people integrate, use, and share knowledge. They increases their confidence, develops their self-efficacy, strengthens their resilience and builds a network of support.

We assure that all who engage with our agency feel welcomed, respected, treated with dignity and in a manner that allows them to benefit according to their individual needs.
