About Youth Care
Youth Care is a residential treatment center for adolescents ages 11-18 who are struggling with issues such as depression, low self-esteem, and substance abuse. Located in Draper, Utah, our peaceful, home-like campus allows young people to work towards healing as they learn new skills and behaviors that will allow them to thrive at home, at school, with peers, and with their families. Programming at Youth Care includes a variety of therapeutic techniques that focus on respect, trust, and accountability, all applied in a real world setting. At Youth Care, we prioritize learning during recovery, and ensure that each young person we serve makes academic gains within our fully-accredited academic program.
Depression Treatment for Adolescents
Adults are not the only ones who experience mental health concerns, and mood issues like depression affect countless young people throughout the world. What differs, however, are the signs and symptoms of depression in adolescents. Developmentally speaking, children lack the skills to verbalize emotional concerns in the way that adults can, and instead speak through the language of behavior. Some of the typical signs that a child may be experiencing depression could include irritability, angry outbursts, changes in appetite, trouble focusing, sudden drop in academic performance, social isolation, fatigue or insomnia, somatic complaints, feelings of hopelessness or guilt, disinterest in activities that were formerly enjoyable, and in severe cases, thoughts of death or suicide.
Why Choose Us
Because of the natural presence of developmentally-appropriate fluctuations in mood, it may be difficult for family members and educators to discern between typical adolescent thoughts and behaviors and clinically significant concerns. But the staff at Youth Care are highly skilled in identifying these concerns, and in creating plans of care that reflect the unique needs of young people who are struggling with depression. Our multifaceted programming for depression includes a variety of therapeutic modalities, including individual therapy, group therapy, experiential therapy, medication management, community service activities, and access to daily instruction in a traditional academic setting. Our safe, structured environment allows children to overcome symptoms of depression, increase their social functioning, learn new coping tools, meet learning objectives, and apply new skills in a realistic, family-like atmosphere. Our compassionate, experienced staff will work with your child to create a plan of care that reflects his or her unique strengths and challenges, and will collaborate with your family to seamlessly transition your child from the treatment setting back to home and school. At Youth Care, we believe that every child can learn and thrive, and we are committed to helping children and families overcome the negative effects of depression.
