Description

Mission: Heritage Clinic is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enhance the behavioral health and quality of life of older adults and their families.

History: Heritage Clinic and the Community Assistance Program for Seniors, previously known as The Center for Aging Resources, began in 1979. We operated as a department of Fuller Theological Seminary’s School of Psychology to train graduate students in psychology and related fields. Heritage Clinic separated from Fuller in 2001 in order to expand its service mission for the older adult community. Heritage Clinic is a private, religious nonprofit organization based on Christian ethos and tradition. However, it does not discriminate in on the basis of religion, or any other diversity characteristic, in its service practices.

Early programming began in 1979 with services for older adult crime victims through the Crime Resistance Involvement Council (CRIC) and Alzheimer’s’ Day Care through the Community Assistance Program for Seniors (CAPS). Heritage Clinic added a contract with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health in 1986 to provide friendly visiting and psychotherapy for home bound older adults (Gero Net). Subsequently (in 1993), programming began specifically targeting victims of elder abuse and neglect. Through grants from organizations such as The Archstone Foundation, the Pfaffinger Foundation and the S. Mark Taper Foundation, Heritage Clinic continued to develop programs to help adults 60+with serious mental illness who were reluctant to receive mental health services. With the advent of the Mental Health Services Act in 2005, Heritage Clinic expanded services into 5 Service Planning Areas (SPAs) of Los Angeles County, including Full Service Partnerships (FSP) for adults 60+ with severe mental illness.
Our history and experience give us a specialized expertise in meeting a wide variety of behavioral health needs of older adults.

Our Staff: Mental health services through Heritage Clinic are provided by trained mental health professionals.
